A Quick Basement Update

So a lot has changed recently on the basement and I haven't had the chance to organize and post all the latest pictures. Here are some pictures of painting and tiling in their early stages. The tile is completed now, but I forgot to take pictures before we covered it up with paper to protect it while we put up trim and more paint. We are currently working on the huge project of installing trim, spackling, sanding, caulking, painting trim and hanging/painting doors. I'll get organized and post more recent pictures soon.

Theater Room Simulation

This past weekend Joe and his dad went and picked up our two new couches for the theater room. Before building the couch platform, Joe wanted to figure out how high the back couch needed to be compared to the front and how much leg room would be needed. We took a couple of the couch sections out on the back deck and Joe hauled some cincer blocks up the stairs to set the back couch on. We were able to figure out exactly how far away and how high we wanted the back couch to be from the front. I'm sure we looked pretty awesome to the neighbors! You know we're that cool...

Loving the Oregon weather...

Nothing like a relaxing evening drive with the top down.

Joe, the handy STUD...

My hard working hubby spend the majority of his Sunday this past weekend building a platform in the theater room for the second level couch to go on. We are putting one couch in front of the other, so we wanted the back couch to be a foot higher than the front so that the back row can see the movie screen. Behind the platform is a half wall that will have a wet bar and seating area in it. The platform turned out just as we had hoped and is plenty sturdy to hold a couch and a crew of movie fans!

Yeah for Sheetrock!

So the basement has finally been sheetrocked, taped and textured! Seeing the walls go up has sure made the basement look much different and much closer to the finished result! Joe and I are "looking forward" :) to starting the painting project. We are hoping to get it done by the end of this weekend! Here are some recent pictures of how it currently looks. Enjoy!

Birthday Weekend!

This past weekend we had our family from Eugene stay with us to celebrate Shawn and Sarah's birthdays. Shawn is married to my oldest sister, Becky and they have two daughters, Hannah 6 and Sarah, who is now 4. They live in Eugene, so it's great when they come up to stay with us for the weekend! We also had my sister Jenn and her hubby Jason over on Saturday, as well as my parents to celebrate both birthdays. It was a fun weekend! Jenn is very talented at making cakes. She made Shawn and Sarah's birthday cakes. Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy!

Basement Update!

So things may not be looking a whole lot different down in the basement, but a lot of progress has been made recently! It looks like all the electrical work will be finished by this evening. Joe's uncle is down there now working and Joe and I will be joining him when we are done at work. After the electrical work passes inspection, we are installing all the insulation ourselves and then the drywall people can come in and do their thing. That will make a big difference in the way things look. I don't think I realized how much time it would take to get all the electrical work done. Thanks to everybody who helped us out! I must say that Joe has spent the most time working hard on everything down there...he is such a stud! He has been working long hours in the basement on weekends and even in the evenings after coming home from a long day at work. It will be so exciting to see the finished project...one day soon! This first picture is Joe's awesome dryer vent installation! The last picture is my handiwork, rerunning and reconnecting all the alarm system wires. I am officially an electrician now ;)

Basement Project

I figured a good topic to start blogging about would be our current basement project. Joe and I are in the process of having a basement built. It has turned out to be a huge blessing that we bought a house that had an unfinished daylight basement. If the basement had been finished when the house was first built, there would have been no way we could have afforded the house. Now adding the basement should hopefully give us the equity we need to be able to keep the house and get into a good 30 year fixed loan. The complete basement will add an addition 1000 sq feet to our house, complete with 2 bedrooms, a laundry room, a bathroom and a large dedicated theater room! We are really excited to see the finished project! We are currently working on all the electrical work and after that comes the sheet rock. Most of the work has been done by our contractor and his crew, but along with the electrical we will be doing all the finished plumping, painting, trim work and tiling. It doesn't sound like a lot, but we will have our work cut out for us for the next couple months. Here are some pictures that we have taken along the way to track the progress.

Well, I figured it was time for me to start my own blog since I have a bunch of friend's blogs that I enjoy following. Now the question is, can I manage to post anything interesting enough to read on here...
